Car maintenance tips: 3 things which people ignore but shouldn’t

Cars are machines and can get depreciated faster if certain steps are not taken. Also, if an automobile part fails or becomes defunct, ignorance on your part will only add to the magnitude of the damage. It will also jeopardize the driver’s safety and shall bring down the expected age of the car. So, it goes without saying that maintaining a vehicle is as important as looking after a pet. It needs care and period inspections by a vet (in this case, a car mechanic).

Though internet is flooded with a plenitude of tips and car maintenance checklists, here are three things which are often undermined by people. They get blithely ignored but they are of high importance and must not suffer such ignorance. Here is a swift look through them:

  1. Intelligent car washing: It may seem like a basic tip but it is baffling the way it is ignored by many. Perhaps, procrastination also comes into play since the modern man’s lethargic mindset and the seeming insignificance of ‘washing’ may detrimentally harm the car. While prima facie, washing removes the accumulated dirt and dust, it also prevents the erosion of the car’s protective coating. The presence of hard dirt and sometimes chemically-infested droppings or liquids may dissolve the outer coating, wax or paint of the car. Also, it is vital to wash the car intelligently, which is a clear implication on use of a proper cleaner instead of resorting to the household detergent. Detergents can often do more harm than good and it is advisable to clean the car with an exclusive cleaner.
  2. Weekly inspection of pressure of tire: This is another simple act which does not take too much time but is considered relatively insignificant and is hence ignored by most car users. So, when the tire bursts all of a sudden on the road or gets punctured or deflated, you have nothing to do but to regret and curse your luck. It is, therefore, just to state that a weekly or near-weekly inspection of tire pressure should be there in your top agenda. In this vein, it should also be said that a worn-out tire or tires with uneven pressure cause greater consumption of fuel. So, taking good care of the tires and looking after their well-being will only help you to reduce fuel consumption. Plus, it is useless saying that the act accords greater safety to your family’s needs.
  3. Skipping scheduled repair or service: By default, your car needs a scheduled service every few months. Some people have the habit of pushing the service date either because of laziness or unconcern or because of the impulsive desire to not to spend the money. There are several parts of a car and many of them cannot be checked by you and indispensably require professional intervention. If such minor parts are not repaired or if you ignore the period scheduled checking, you may also lose out on the warranty or guarantee policy. So, a rational buyer must also add this point to his list of priorities.
